San Miguel rips Purefoods; extends win streak to 5
11 Nov 2009Mike Cortez came off the bench to score 22 points while Dondon Hontiveros scattered 20 as the San Miguel Beermen ride a hot start, never allowing the Purefoods TJ Giants a taste of the lead in a 92-76 win in the 2009-2010 KFC PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.Arwind Santos and Jonas Villanueva scored and Dorian Pena grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Beermen, who has now won their fifth straigh game after losing their first two.“It’s another good win keeping our streak. I credit our defense for the streak. Our offense comes and goes but our defensive effort has always been there. Defense is where we get our energy,” said San Miguel coach Siot Tanquingcen.The Beermen started the game with an 11-2 run and posted several 20-point leads before Purefoods went on a last-ditch rally to come within 76-70 in the middle of the furth quarter. But that was as close as they'll get as Hontiveros led a game-ending 14-6 run to preserve the win.James Yap led Purefoods with 13 points.
